PADI Specialty Courses
We offer a multitude of Specialties here at Jurassic Coast. Some of the more popular ones are listed below. If there is one that you fancy taking that is not listed, please get in touch with the dive centre. The only ones we really struggle with are Ice and Altitude, although if the winters keep getting colder......
If you complete five Specialties, you will be well on your way to becoming a Master Scuba Diver and achieving the 'Black Belt' of recreational diving!!
Boat Diver
Develop your knowledge of dive boats, proper boat diving etiquette, personal conduct, basic boat diving terminology and local boat diving laws. Improve your diving skills by learning to perform boat entries and exits, learn to plan, organise and conduct safe dives from boats.
Number of Dives on Course: Two
Prerequisite Certification: PADI Open Water, Junior Open Water or equivalent.

Deep Diver
The Deep diver specialty is intended to serve as a safe, supervised introduction to Deep diving within the limits of recreational Scuba Diving. You will develop theoretical knowledge of deep diving and learn to plan/organise and make no decompression dives between the depths of 18m to 39.9m. There are lots of exciting Wrecks to explore in the Exmouth area and the Deep diver Specialty will help you discover the amazing underwater world a little bit more!!

Digital Under Water Photography
Familiarise yourself with the use of a digital underwater camera, firstly during a pool session, then in the open water. Finally, experiment with manipulating your pictures using the features of a computer package. This course is available at a number of levels and is designed for both divers AND snorkellers. You will also learn about basic camera care and have an understanding of some of the considerations when selecting an underwater camera.

Drysuit Diver
Feeling the cold? Want to dive all year round? Drysuit Diver is the Course for you!! Develop your knowledge of Drysuits, when to use them, different types of Drysuit, how to maintain them and practice diving in them! Your initial orientation will be in the pool, before heading off into the open water.

Minimum age: 10 Years

Enriched Air Diver
Familiarise yourself with procedures, safety protocols, benefits and theory of no decompression diving with oxygen enriched air containing 22% - 40% oxygen. The emphasis is on diving with EANx 32 percent and EANx 36 percent.

Equipment Specialist
This course will familiarise divers with the operation and maintenance of diving equipment. You will not be qualified to service your kit after this course, however a better understanding should help you maintain your kit, and may save you money and hassle! We have a big box of kit in various states of damage and poor maintenance, so you can see what happens if you don't look after it correctly!

Full Face Mask
Have you ever fancied diving with a Full Face Mask? Did you know that we have four available for hire? You just have to be a certified Full Face Mask Diver! On the Full Face Mask Specialty you'll learn about procedures, safety protocols and hazards of diving with a Full Face Mask. We start off with an orientation in the pool to make sure that you are comfortable equalising and clearing the mask, and also practice switching from Full Face Mask to standard mask, before heading off for two sea dives. These are ideal if you find regulator mouthpieces uncomfortable, or if you suffer from ice cream head!!!

Night Diver
Discover the delights of the Ocean at Night!! The night diver course serves as a safe and supervised introduction to night diving, training will develop your practical knowledge as well as giving you the skills to safely organise and conduct night dives. You will require a main torch, a smaller torch as backup and a marker to be attached to your pillar valve.

Emergency Oxygen Provider
Oxygen is a vital first aid measure for diving emergencies - this course will give you the skills and confidence to offer oxygen to injured divers; find out how to safely handle oxygen and what considerations need to be taken into account when administering oxygen in a diving emergency. When administered to a diver suffering from decompression illness, oxygen can prevent or reduce the long-term effects. This course is open to divers and non-divers, as it includes practical training, but no dives.

Peak Performance Buoyancy
Polish your buoyancy control and perfect your weighting with the PPB Course. You will learn how to control your buoyancy through knowledge development and skills practice. By the end of this course, you will be more comfortable with your buoyancy, you may also have managed to reduce the amount of weight you require, and you will also find that your air consumption impoves alongside improved buoyancy control!

Research Diver
Do you get bored diving the same sites over and over again? Dive with a purpose - become a Research Diver and make the most of your diving by developing skills for identifying and recording wildlife, see how a site changes over time by learning how to set a grid and monitor life within that grid. How much could you find in 4m2?

Minimum age: 15 years

Search and Recovery
Learn how to perform simple search and recovery related tasks and learn different search techniques and know how to plan and conduct Search and Recovery dives. You'll get to practice a wide range of different search patterns, so you can choose the best pattern for the local environment, and the object that you're trying to locate! Once the object has been located, you then get to recover it using a lift bag - again, you'll practice attaching a lift bag and find out about the techniques for using it.

Underwater Navigation
On completion of this course you will be able to plan, organise and make dives using natural and compass navigation. You need never again miss the reef at Budleigh or Mushroom Rock at Babbacombe!

Wreck Diver
Raise your awareness of the historical value of wrecks and social and legal issues surrounding that value. Develop your practical knowledge of the underwater wreck environment and learn to plan and organise dives to safely explore wrecks. The wreck diver course is one of the most interesting and exciting courses that we run. The south coast boasts a variety of wrecks to explore!
